I’m feeling increasingly exasperated watching the baby sleep consultant industry evolve — and honestly, it worries me.
Just recently, I stumbled upon ads aggressively promising to “bring in clients with minimal effort” or “make money fast” by becoming a sleep consultant after a quick online course. To someone like me, who has dedicated over 20 years to truly understanding infant sleep, these messages feel insulting and misleading.
I regularly receive calls from parents across the UK and worldwide who have worked with sleep training consultants offering generic advice that just doesn’t work, and as a result, they believe all sleep experts are the same. We’re not!
Becoming a genuine expert in baby sleep support isn’t a quick fix. It’s not about completing a certificate, jumping on a franchise bandwagon, or simply being good at creating content on Instagram. It takes years of hands-on experience, ongoing education, and a deep understanding of families’ unique challenges to truly help vulnerable parents navigate the exhausting journey of sleep deprivation — and to build a career with the longevity to last 20 years.
As a baby sleep coach in Edinburgh, I also receive messages from women who have been promised they can start a business in sleep consultancy, lured in through persuasive and aggressive marketing, only to discover they cannot get any traction. The market is completely saturated.
The baby sleep training industry is still largely unregulated, which means there’s no consistent standard of care. And now, the rise of franchise models promising fast cash risks preying on parents desperate for solutions — sometimes offering cookie-cutter advice that doesn’t reflect each child’s specific needs.
This isn’t just about business models or marketing strategies. It’s about the well-being of babies and their families. Gentle sleep training support should be rooted in compassion, expertise, and evidence-based practices — not quick-money promises.
I believe in raising the bar for our industry. Parents deserve trustworthy, knowledgeable support — not hype.
So if you’re looking for baby sleep help, please choose carefully. Look for someone who has a proven track record, extensive experience, and genuine care for your family’s unique journey.
This is why I’m committed to bringing real, compassionate expertise to every family I work with — because sleep support is so much more than a quick course or a catchy ad. It’s about changing lives for the better, one well-rested night at a time.
